"What if the future of TS research included a shift to [...] not the study of Tourette Syndrome but rather the Tourettic?"
Over the past year, I've been slowly but surely developing ideas for a future funding application for research into Tourette Syndrome, in line with what I have deemed a 'Tourettic Studies' approach. Now, in an exciting development, I've secured a Bridging Fellowship at Durham University with a work package that allows me to focus a lot more of my time on developing this!
This project will consider a person-centred approach to Tourette Syndrome which considers three key themes:
Multiply minoritized experiences of Tourette Syndrome
Technologizing of Tourettic people and culture
Using the Tourettic and tics as a creative starting point in Tourette Syndrome research
During the Bridging Fellowship, I'll be expanding my presence as a leading disability scholar by publishing papers from my PhD research, innovating novel methodologies that centre tics as a starting point for movement practice and performance, and developing a Tourettic studies approach ahead of larger grant funding applications.
This announcement marks just the beginning of what I hope will be a fruitful and impactful period of scholarship. While this is all I am able to share for the time being, it is an exciting opportunity for my academic career, and I'm excited to share updates with you moving forwards. I plan to update this site regularly with project updates, insights, and reflections as the fellowship unfolds, so watch this space...
There are many exciting developments on the horizon, and I look forward to engaging with this blog site as the fellowship progresses!
